Medicare and private health funds allow you to visit any optometrist without affecting the benefits you receive.

Medicare covers the cost of eye examinations at least once every two years for all permanent Australian residents. You're eligibile for Medicare rebates without having to spend costly amounts on private health insurance. Please be aware some exceptions apply for contact lens consultations.private health funds
Rebates on prescription frames, lenses, sunglasses and contacts can be claimed from your health fund regardless of which optometrist you visit. Your rebates will depend on the entitlements included in your health fund, you can confirm what you're entitled to by contacting your health fund provider.
